PLATELET RICH PLASMA

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. This incredible “liquid gold” is injected in numerous areas to improve skin quality. Platelets contain growth factors which are activated when injected in the skin. This initiation of growth factors causes a biological reset to occur within the skin. This process takes aged unhealthy skin and turns it into younger, healthier and revitalised tissue.

PRP treatment is suitable for treatment of dark circles in under eyes, full facial rejuvenation, neck rejuvenation and even hair growth.

PRP treatment involves taking a small sample of blood, processing it in our centrifuge in clinic to separate the Red blood cells from the Platelets. Once we have separated the platelets we can re-inject these amazing platelets into the target area to start the rejuvenation process.

We use the Alocuro PRP system at Meridian Aesthetics. This system has been proven to harvest the highest amount of platelets per sample. Due to the high number of platelets in the sample we are able to provide superior results compared to other providers with other systems. We chose Alocuro as it is scientifically backed with numerous research papers to support the results.

Please get in touch if you often have difficulty having blood taken – you may not be suitable for this treatment.

2 WEEKS BEFORE

Cease oral corticosteroids (eg prednisone)for 2 weeks prior to the procedure if able to do so, please consult personal doctor prior to doing so.

1 WEEK BEFORE

Do not take any blood thinning medications, Aspirin or medications containing aspirin for 5 days prior to the procedure. Patients can continue their Warfarin.

Supplements that are known to increase bruising should also be ceased–Garlic, Ginko, Ginseng, Green Tea, Vitamin E, Multi-vitamins, Omega 3,6 and fish oils.

Topical medications & high strength cosmeceuticals containing Vitamin A, Retinol, Glycolic acid should be ceased 5 days prior as their interaction and effect on the local anaesthetic gel and PRP is not known.

2 DAYS PRIOR

Discontinue any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications such as Nurofen, Ibuprofen, Voltaren, Celebrex, Mobic, or any other prescribed anti-inflammatory medications, for 2 days prior until 10 days after the PRP therapy.

Minimal caffeine, alcohol and fatty food and ideally have a healthy diet.

At least one litre of water each day for good hydration(more in hot weather).

Microdermabrasion, aggressive peels and exfoliants should not be used as it may make the skin more sensitive to the topical local anaesthetic gel.

DAY OF PROCEDURE

Drink at least one litre of water and refrain from excessive exercise (to assist blood collection).

Have meals as normal (low fat is best for meal prior to PRP procedure).Do not fast.

You will not be able to take any anti-inflammatory medication (eg: Nurofen)for ten days after the procedure.

We suggest having some Panadol / Panadeine available in case you need some mild pain relief.

Do not wash your face with any cleansers for 12 hours prior, use warm water if needed after 4 hours

Do not apply Makeup for 12 hours post procedure

If pain relief required only use Paracetamol

Do not use any anti inflammatory medications e.g. nurofen, voltaren or oral steroids 7 days post procedure

Asprin can recommence 48hrs post procedure, otherwise as directed by your medical doctor

Minimise alcohol, caffeine for 2 days post procedure

No exercise or strenuous activity for 24hours post

No heat or extreme cold eg. Cryotherapy for 72 hours post

On rare occasions significant swelling can occur to under eye area if treated for some patients. This is due to an amplified regenerative process and ice can be applied in this circumstance

Please get in touch if severe swelling occurs or if swelling begins 24hours post procedure, redness, skin oozing or fever
